Explain the Annual Theme

Read the theme narratives supplied by the national and state programs

1. National theme narrative  
2. State theme narrative
3. Discuss with your students  different ways to approach the theme
4. Brainstorm  potential topics or give students a list of possible topics
5. Plan a visit from the state coordinator to present theme to students
6. Plan a visit to the school media center or assign the students to do preliminary research on their topic to determine feasibility. Availability of sources - primary and secondary - and images together determine the feasibility
